George Hubert Wilkins (1888-1958) was a British Arctic and Antarctic explorer. He made ten trips to polar regions between 1913 and 1937. He is best known for his 2100 mile flight from Pt. Barrow, Alaska to Spitsbergen, Norway (1928). King George V knighted Wilkins for this feat. Following his career as a polar explorer Wilkins became a civilian consultant to U.S. Army regarding polar and desert regions. Collection was compiled by Lura B. Sir George Hubert Wilkins (b. October 31, 1888, Hallett, South Australia-d. November 30, 1958, Framingham, Massachusetts), polar explorer, geographer, photographer, and consultant for the United States Military.
